I know its early..
But I’m starting my christmas shopping now to have it out of the way before the rush hits the shops so I can focus on work and saving money for next year.
My mother has a very nostalgic memory attached to Mary Poppins as her father took her to see the movie when it first came out in April 1965. She was seven years old. She told me that the film sparked her love of musicals and that she shares that memory with her Dad.
Her father now has severe dementia, and has had for almost 6 years.
He wouldn’t remember the importance of the film, but she does.
She recently saw the musical stage play of Mary Poppins and said she felt as if she was seven years old again, re-living each part of the story. When she came home, I had bought her the DVD of the movie, without her knowing a thing. She said it was the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given her, and she cried.
Before presenting it to her, she told me how she looked at the merchandise and how she longed to purchase the magical umbrella possessed by Mary Poppins but she just did not have the money at the time.
I have just located the exact umbrella from Capitol Theatre and am buying it for her for Christmas. I am also buying the famous carpet bag for her.
Again, she doesn’t know a thing.
I love my Mummy.
